camp recap

*i just like the way the subject line sounds when it rolls off your tongue*

so you may or may not know that i went away to youth camp this past weekend. omg, it was a blast. my favorite things about camp, in no special order, are:

my girls...i just like hanging out! you gals are a bunch of super funny hoodlums...and boy am i glad we didn't share a room 'cause the breeze was sure blowin'! and...now i know, if you buy a bag of reece's pieces and arizona tea, they're for sharing! got it! next time i'll buy economy size!...i really wished you all would have experienced my super fine skills at ping pong, but at least you let me browse through your magazines--very interesting, no doubt....i love you, gals! and would do camp with you 20x/year if we could.

my room...totally rocked! although, i don't think i would mind staying in those a-frame cabins; they looked cozy...the only thing missing were the vents in the toilet rooms--duh!...but at least i wasn't rooming with the girls!

dancing...i loved the dancing! especially when they had the face off. hip hop dance, with the krumping, popping and flashy tricks--yep, totally amazing!...never really saw the action in real life, before; just in the movies...thanks for sharing the moves!

snow...loved God's timing on that. don't know if i would've enjoyed a whole weekend of it; but for the last day?--perfect!...i like the snow but, actually, i'm not too *huge* on it; for me, a good day of fresh powder is always doable and fun!...the snow fights were fun to watch!...and it would hardly be "winter camp" without snow.

game room...yep, spent some time in here...after i found the place on sunday! ...love games, love playing pool, love ping pong, love people...i hardly remember what i did on saturday, except nap...that was a good thing, because if i had found the game room on saturday, i would've been wiped by monday.

people
...my absolute favorite thing about camp is being with people!!...i LOVE hanging out with my teens, i LOVE reconnecting with past friends, i LOVE making new friends... i simply LOVE it when God's people come together to fellowship, to mingle, to love on each other, to connect...you all were lit!...thanks for the good times.

worship and music
...the worship team totally rocked...really loved the girl-singer's voice--nice alto/second sopr.; i imagine it would be fun to hear her sing with my friend, Mary...i absolute enjoyed watching the guitarist/ bongo-drummer; had a nice lead, was pretty groovy...i liked the sax...and i liked the guy-singer's voice--he blended well with the girl...(i really should remember their names, it's kind of rude of me; but, i'm seriously bad with names. if you *know* me, you know this already!)...this all only makes sense if you were at camp, sorry.

workshops...David Snow, i can't stop thinking about the things he said about God's authorship (and beauty) in beat and rhythm and grooves and how we each have a part of that inside us and how we crave and need rhythm in our life and that good rhythm (as a skill and testiment of beauty) essentially comes from discipline...i so needed to hear that and to digest the full implications of that......and Doug Rank--i loved seeing him again. i loved his heart in sharing about adoption into the christian circle. he totally went off in a different direction than what i was expecting; but was, never-the-less, right on--as christians we are a part of a "community" that can sometimes be seen as an exclusive clique with our own customary language and ideologies...it's was good to be reminded of that and to get back to the basics.

what i liked the least was:

the speaker
...it's kind of sad to say it (after all, the guy is my friend), but i'd be remiss if i didn't...the speaker was good in content, but he would actually be awesome as a speaker for an older audience (e.g. next gen, college/career/young adults)...the content just didn't vibe with the students...and, on a more finer point in detail, i didn't agree with some of the things he said...but i still love him and adore his wife and kids.

and there you go...
