My 3 year-old learns about the water cycle.

Allie- "Mom," showing me her bowl of soup, "The ice is all gone!?"

Me-"It melted"

Allie-"why?"

Me- (trying to be frank and in a matter-of-fact tone) "Because that's what ice does."

Allie-"why?"

Me- (impressed with her persistent curiousity) "Because ice is water. When water gets cold in the freezer, it gets hard and that's ice, the water turns into ice... and when ice get's warm it melts into water."

Allie- "but why?"

Me- (in an effort to share who God is) "because that's the way God made it" (anticipating more whys, I am still thinking up some good explanations).

Allie- "why, mommy?"

Me- (trying to share more about God and His relationship with us and to further instill more of a sense of who God is, His character) "Because it's fun!!"

Allie- "but why?... I don't like that!" (I guess...um... she's resorted to share her unhappiness with God's creativity).

THOUGHT: Sometimes we (adults) are so much like that with God. We don't always appreciate the majesty and beauty of His creativity...especially when it doesn't suit us for the timebeing.
