| | Current mood: determined didn't quite find the time to talk much to myself today.
i woke up at 2, fought sleep for another hour and got up to read. i tried to go back to bed at 5ish and failed, miserably. needless to say, i was not the happiest mom. it took some time, but eventually everyone got fed and i got my dose of tea.
the kids and i were planning on going on a fieldtrip through our homeschool group, but it got re-sceduled. that left me with the opportunity to take them out and do a little christmas shopping. i found a little something for sam. also, while i was out, i found a few good bargains on some great old classic books! i was so excited.
after lunch, at 2:00 (poor kids), we settled in and played a few games and watched a math video.
for fear of this post getting way too boring, i just remembered that i have an interactive blog request--a vote of some sort.
first; the story: i just recently found out that i have an ulcer that flares up occasionally. i feel quite old, believe me. but, upon further testing of my blood, my ulcer, apparently, is caused by a bacteria that needs to be treated with a regimen of 2 types of antibiotics and an acid reducer. of course, within 24 hours of taking my antibiotics, i get a rash--an allergic reaction. i visit the allergy clinic and they tell me that there is nothing they can do to test which one of the antibiotics was causing the reaction (unbeknownst to me, they were both new to the prescription market).
big dilema--in that i don't care to host these bacterias and i really feel strongly that they need to be delt with. but the solution is simple. can't i just run a home study on myself? does anyone know of any significant harm in trying one antibiotic for a dose or two and test for a reaction? then i would test the other antibiotic, for good measure. does anyone know anything about anaphylactic shock and its triggers? should i be concerned? FYI, i have 1-50MG tablet of prednisone on hand.
so now...the vote: should i test myself? yes or no
if yes, which sounds better to try first (the least likely suspect to cause a rash)? clarithromycin 500mg OR metronidazole 500mg
please vote now by blog response or by message. of course sam has final say. but, i am seriously wanting to do this. |
